Moo: “Take Second Life Into Your First Life” + Linkedin
” Take Second Life into your first life: make MiniCards featuring your avatar, crib or hangout”.
Moo is an online service which enables you to create “MiniCards” showing your photos on one side, and your details on the other. You can actually upload your own pictures as well as the ones made available from Flickr. What makes Moo interesting is their association with social networking tools such as Vox, Bebo, Flickr, and Second Life to name some.
It makes you wonder if Moo should also consider working with Linkedin. Speaking of which, Web Worker Daily has posted a very interesting write up on how to make the most of Linkedin. They outline some 20 different activities. In my view, the following two have become my priorities:
Set a profile that showcases your skills as a freelancer. Linkedin can double as your online resume. By the way, your “profile” will be “Googled” an it, therefore, becomes “searchable” on the Internet. Here is a Google search for mine, the link to Linkedin’s profile should be among the first few search results (otherwise, let me know).
Use it as part of your CRM tools for your small business. Get relevant connections. I would not suggest accepting and/or inviting everyone you receive an invitation from. The quality of your contact list will matter to those on it, which tells about the reliability of your network. Networking is about a mutually benefitial exchange, thus helping others by introducing them to people of interest will eventually pay off (e.g. at the time you would need them to help you). My contacts on Linkedin fall into these buckets:
- Most people on my list I happen to know well, e.g. I have worked and/or gone to college with them
- There is also a fair amount of people who I have met personally and exchanged business cards with, e.g. in business trips, conferences, networking events, etc.
- I also added some names who have been highly recommended to me by friends.
- There are just a few contacts who are not part of the above, these are people who have sent me a Linkedin invitation, which accepted only after having done some research and trading emails.
There are quite a few more things you can do with Linkedin as pointed out by the Web Worker Daily. So I suggest that you read the article as well as the interesting comments left by quite a few of their readers. I’m going to have another look at Moo and I would like to make up my mind on whether to other MiniCards.
