LG innovation challenge

LG talks about innovation being the constant pursuit of improvements and reforms, showing a focus on quality management on the company’s corporate  site, e.g. Six Sigma and a program known as Super A. That page also shows a reference to Technology Leadership 2005, which I was able to track back to LG’s 1999 annual report. LT 2005 relates to the company’s investments in the kind of R&D expected to deliver flagship products for the Internet and mobile communications.

LG Electronics’ innovative products enhance people’s lives, and have established a corporate culture based on challenge and innovation. LG’s culture of non-stop innovation is prompting us to lead through change. Why Join LG?

What caught my attention this morning was the Donga’s article discussing productivity improvements driven by ideas generated by LG’s own employees. They focus on production processes and quality management. Additionally, LG launched the design “innovation challenge” earlier in the year. This competition is a kind of crowdsourcing initiative aimed to gather new and unique phone concepts. A panel shortlisted the best designs based on:

  • need fulfillment
  • creativity and innovation
  • feasibility
